12:00 onwards | Oral History and Exhibition ‘Women in Special Collections of Trinity Hall’

As we mark 40 years of women at Trinity Hall, we want to gather recordings of your memories and personal experiences during your time in College and to hear about the impact Trinity Hall has had on your life. We would also love to hear about the challenges our alumnae have faced as women and how these challenges have been overcome.

Please feel free to record your oral history alone or in a group. Further information will be available in the Graham Storey Room where there will also be an exhibition “Hall Women: A Short History of Women at Trinity Hall”. You do not need to book a time slot, please just arrive on the day.


 

13:30 - 14:15 | Welcome from the Master and Poster Session - FULLY BOOKED

Following a welcome speech from the Master we will be joined by the following Trinity Hall members who will present their research in the format of a poster session. There will be an opportunity to ask questions.

Sasha TurchynDr Sasha Turchyn, Fellow in Earth Sciences and Director of Studies in Natural Sciences
Sasha will speak about the balance of carbon at Earth's surface and how and why this has varied over geological time. 

 

Jasmin FisherDr Jasmin Fisher, Fellow in Natural Biological Sciences
Jasmin will speak about her research on how cells work, using computational tools to understand the biological programs that drive cancer and how to “debug” them.

 

Laura CarterLaura Carter (2008), PhD student
Laura will speak about her research on education and everyday life in mid-twentieth century Britain. 

 

 

Lilia GiugniLilia Giugni (2012), Director of GenPol and Research Fellow
Lilia, who completed her doctorate in Spring 2017 and is now the director of GenPol, a think tank exploring matters of gender, and Research Fellow at the Cambridge Centre for Social Innovation, Cambridge Judge Business School, will speak about her research on the impact of gender dynamics on Italian organised crime.

 


 

14:15 - 15:30  | Afternoon Tours - FULLY BOOKED

We have organised 4 tour options which you will be asked to choose between when booking. Please note that places on each tour are limited and will be allocated on a first come, first served basis. 

Option 1: Old Library visit 'Women in Special Collections of Trinity Hall'

Due to the high demand for the Old Library visit, we have created two groups. Each group will be given a brief history of the Old Library by the Director of Library Services, Dominique Ruhlmann, before entering the Old Library. You are also invited to explore the exhibition “Hall Women: A Short History of Women at Trinity Hall” which has been put together by the College Archivist, Alexandra Browne, in the Graham Storey Room.


Option 2: Garden Tour of Trinity Hall

Guided by Sam Hartley of the Gardens Team: An informal tour of the varied Garden areas along with discussion of some of  the horticultural practices and techniques used in the upkeep and development of the Gardens.


Option 3: Walking Tour of Cambridge with Angela Carr (1979), Blue Badge Tour Guide

If you thought you knew Cambridge, wait until you walk through the city with Angela! See how many of the surprising and unusual places of interest and significance are new to you during this tour of Cambridge.


Option 4: Presentation and visit to the Genizah exhibition at the University Library

On arrival at the UL, there will be a presentation about the Genizah Collections after which, you are invited to explore the Genizah manuscripts in the Library’s Exhibition Centre.


 

15:30 - 16:30 | Tea and Cake on Latham Lawn - FULLY BOOKED

After the tours, we will ask guests to reconvene on Latham lawn for tea and cake.


 

16:30 - 17:45  | Panel Discussion - FULLY BOOKED

We are pleased to be joined by five Trinity Hall alumni and the Senior Tutor for our panel discussion: '40 years on, have we smashed the glass ceiling?' See more details.

18:45 - 01:00  | Drinks Reception, Anniversary Dinner and Black & White Ball (FULLY BOOKED)

Drinks will be served on Latham Lawn at 19:00  followed by dinner (4 courses with wine) at 19:30. After dinner guests are invited to the Black & White Ball where there will be live music and dancing. The evening will conclude at 01:00. The dress code is black tie/ball gown or cocktail dress with a black and white theme. You are also invited to wear a black and white mask.
